Confused by the changes happening at Southwest today (May 28th)? We did the hard work so you don’t have to. Here are the main items to keep in mind:
Checked Bags:
-First checked bag $35, second $45
-Business Select fares / A-List Preferred = 2 free bags
-A-List / co-branded credit cards = 1 free bag
Basic Fare Type:
-Will replace Wanna Get Away fare
-Free cancellations, but no free changes to tickets
-6 month flight credit expiration from cancelled tickets
Biz Select, Anytime, Wanna Get Away Plus:
-Yes (Southwest still offers these fares) and they will still have free changes
-12 month flight credit expiration
Seating Assignments:
-Coming in 2026
Biggest takeaway: If you usually book Wanna Get Away fares, start booking Wanna Get Away Plus, NOT Basic
